The stop of the construction of the Lobau Tunnel, announced on December 1 by the Federal Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology Leonore Gewessler, throws a spotlight on the tense traffic situation in the eastern region. While environmental and climate activists celebrate the decision as historic, local residents are disappointed, as they had hoped for a relief of through traffic in their residential areas.
For this stalemate Respekt.net, with the support of the Action for Sustainable Future hub of the Ludwig Boltzmann Society and the University of Applied Arts Vienna, presents a solution in the form of a major social reflection process: The FUTURE COUNCIL ON TRANSPORT is based on experiences of local citizens' councils and the Future Council on Democracy and is a participatory process that aims to develop a sustainable transport concept for the entire eastern region together with the affected population.
